Tawnya Ferbiak Somauroo

Tawnya Ferbiak Somauroo is a registered US patent attorney whose practice includes the preparation, filing, and prosecution of international and domestic patents in the mechanical, electrical, and software arts. Tawnya has experience prosecuting patents in the following technology areas:

Before entering the legal profession, Tawnya worked for eight years as an aerospace engineer at the University of Colorado at the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP).  During her time at LASP, Tawnya designed and wrote software for scientific instruments built for spaceflight, performed integration and test, and set up mission operations.  She worked on space shuttle, low earth orbiting, and interplanetary missions.

Tawnya received a Bachelor of Science in physics from Northern Arizona University, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Colorado Law School.  While at the University of Colorado Law School, Tawnya was an associate editor on the Journal on Telecommunications and High Technology Law, and co-founded the Aerospace Law and Policy Association.  

Tawnya spent two years of her legal career working as a US patent attorney in London, where she collaborated with a team of European and UK patent practitioners to draft international patent applications for US and UK-based clients.
